Side work that holds
Cutting a time slot that holds
Side work fits better in a fixed weekly slot than in whatever time is left over.
“I will do it when I have time” rarely works. Leftover time shrinks, and side work ends up crowding out rest.
Choose a fixed slot
- Pick the same two or three blocks every week.
- Choose times when you have energy, not just time.
- Tell the people you live with, so the slot is protected.
Size it honestly
Start smaller than you think: four to six hours a week is plenty for a first month. It is easier to widen a slot than to recover from burning out.
Review after a month. If the slot keeps getting cut short, move it rather than adding more.
